Get Gruesome this Halloween Without Terrorizing Your Skin

Afraid of the dark? You should be afraid of something much more terrifying….

This year, All Hallow’s Eve falls on a spooky Saturday night. While this year’s festivities will be bigger and better than ever, we bet you don’t know the real dangers lurking just beneath the surface of this horrid holiday:  The havoc your Halloween makeup is wreaking on your skin! Ahhhh!!!!!

With no shortage of parties to attend and thousands of great makeup tutorials on the web, we can bet that you’ve spent hours perfecting your costume….and what’s the perfect costume without a ghoulish face to match?

If you’re planning on painting your face, be sure to protect yourself from the ghastly results of Halloween makeup gone horribly wrong. Our three tips will keep you from waking up on Sunday with an awful face full of zits, discoloration, or worse…

Be afraid, be very afraid….

Avoid the one-stop-shop.

While the colorful makeup aisle at your local costume store may look enticing, don’t take the bait. Even retailers that tout their products’ hypoallergenic properties aren’t addressing the real issue. What you really need to fear is whether it will clog your precious pores.

Always look for the word noncomedogenic (aka. non-pore clogging) on your cosmetics’ packaging to be sure that you’re not endangering the health of your skin. And…if you’re prone to breakouts or have sensitive skin, do yourself- and your skin- a favor and invest in professional makeup. (We recommend M.A.C. professional line or Kryolan! )

Prepare for the worst.

Did you know that barrier cream isn’t just for babies’ bottoms and spray tans? Utilizing the same concept as your local bronzing boutique, barrier creams act as a physical barrier to protect your skin. Theatre performers, mimes, and clowns have trusted this treat-of-a-trick for decades.

Applied before your makeup, barrier creams flawlessly protect your skin and are especially important if you’re painting your face any color you don’t want to be scrubbing off for days. To be sure you don’t show up at brunch the next day still rocking your gruesome Halloween mask, grab a ProFace or Kryolan barrier cream before this weekend.

Don’t go to sleep!

After binging on horror flicks for weeks, you might not want to sleep because you’re afraid of the dark ….but that’s not what we’re talking about. Wash that gunky layer of makeup off as soon as you get home! We recommend a good, old-fashioned cold cream.

Without wetting your skin, apply the product directly to your face. (Water will impede the cream from breaking down the pigment.) For a full three minutes, massage the cream into your skin before getting in there with a warm, wet washcloth. Once no traces of makeup remain, cleanse as usual- if you’re prone to breakouts use tnt Clarifying Cleanser. Before heading off to bed, we recommend gently swiping your skin with tnt Beta Boost Toner or our tnt Face Editor Pads.

This Halloween, don’t become your skin’s worst nightmare! And- for year-round skincare- check out our complete collection of tried-and-true products.

Science. Truth. Results.
